Friday Photo: Chain link

February 26, 2010

Rhyolite, Nevada (May 2009)

This is one of my favorite pictures. In the ghost town of Rhyolite, there’s an old train station, but it’s the one structure in town you’re not allowed to touch. There’s a chain link fence around it.

I tried to get a shot of the train station and instead got a cooler close-up of the fence with the blurry station behind it.

Friday Photo: Mossy stick

February 19, 2010

Elkins, West Virginia (April 2009)

Little things like this please me. Very early in my summer trip (day 2, I believe) I went hiking in the Monongahela National Forest. I was intrigued by this stick at the base of a tree. It’s been there so long, untouched, that moss grew around the stick and the tree together.

Friday Photo: Hi, how are you

Austin, Texas (May 2009)

I didn’t find Austin to be as weird as it claims to be. But this piece of art was wonderfully quirky.

Friday Photo: San Diego smoke shop

San Diego, California (May 2009)

Medical marijuana is legal in California, so there are smoke shops in the cities. This one has conveniently added adult videos to enhance your smoking experience.

The Native American rest stop in Wyoming

February 1, 2010

Here’s another item I didn’t blog about the first time around. Driving through Wyoming was not terribly exciting, but one of their rest stops on the way to Grand Teton had a small free Native American museum.

They had lots of trinkets and beads on display.

The museum had a lot of buffalo hides and Native American clothing that I neglected to photograph, as well as dishes, rugs, and other random items.
