DAY 114: New York, New York
Miles traveled: 15,211
States visited: 40 (just added: New York)
Weather: 84, rainy and muddy
This weekend we went to NYC and attended the All Points West music festival in New Jersey. The weather was dreadful – it poured on Friday and turned the entire park into a giant mud pit for the rest of the weekend. After Friday, I made the wise decision to buy a pair of $5 flip flops from a stand in Chinatown so that I didn’t ruin my regular shoes.
We also bought 88 cent ponchos from Walmart in anticipation of the rain, and that was the best decision I’ve made during my 114 days on the road! I just posted a scathing review of this festival on my music blog, mostly due to the fact that festival officials decided that anyone who bought a ticket for Friday could attend for free on Saturday and Sunday. OK, so what about those of us who paid for all three days? We get screwed! I sent an email to festival organizers demanding a refund – we’ll see what happens.
Most of the weekend looked like this:
Nonetheless, I had a great time at the festival, as I do any place that music is being played. Jay-Z and Coldplay were great headliners, and a bunch of other bands were excellent: Gogol Bordello, Akron/Family, Vampire Weekend, and The National.
I got to see one of my favorite bands, Ghostland Observatory, and even got a couple decents pics, which never happens, because they move around too fast and their laser-light show is not photo-friendly.
St. Vincent is the moniker for Annie Clark, who puts on a great show.
In the next post I’ll recap the non-music festival events of our weekend in New York City!
