DAY 95: Chicago, Illinois
Miles traveled: 13,415
States visited: 33 (just added: Illinois)
Weather: 86, sunny

I’ve just arrived in Chicago. I’ll be here for several days, scouting out the city since I’m possibly/probably moving here. And I’ll be attending the Pitchfork Music Festival on Saturday and Sunday, featuring a bunch of hip indie rock bands you’ve never heard of.

On the way out of Wisconsin, I kept seeing these signs that said “Wisconsin Fun – next exit!” But it never specified what kind of fun! How perplexing. My guess is it had something to do with cheese.

I did stop in the college town of Madison, after all. The campus was nice, although it didn’t look that way because of all the construction. But I could see past its face value hideousness to its real inner beauty.

In Chicago I spent an afternoon wandering around Wicker Park. I’m still trying to figure out if I want to live here. My first impressions this time? Lots of humidity, unfriendly drivers who don’t let anyone merge, and a stunning absence of bike lanes all around the city. Not so good!

But they have bars that advertise PBR and chili sandwiches.

This has to be the loneliest job in the world – Little Caesars sign holder. They should make a “Real men of genius” commercial about him.

Much more to come from Chicago in the coming days!

Turns out there are numerous bike lanes around, just not in Wicker Park. That’s good to see!
